"Mum gets a bit emotional on first nights,” he says, “but Dad… he started to weep at the first night of After the Dance when he was telling me how proud he was. I didn’t know what to do. I just held onto him. I said, ‘You’re not crying out of relief that I got through it, are you?’ And he said, ‘No, you stupid boy. I’m crying because you were so wonderful.’"

Brilliant, aloof and almost entirely lacking in social graces. Sherlock is a unique young man with a mind like a ‘racing engine’. Without problems to solve, it will tear itself to pieces. And the more bizarre and baffling the problems the better. He has set himself up as the world’s only consulting detective, whom the police grudgingly accept as their superior.

OH. MY. DEAR. LORD.

Didn’t I, my dear.

The thing that upsets me the most is Sherlock’s ruined reputation. And John having to go out into the world everyday and knowing people are judging him. Thinking he’s an idiot, thinking he was played into thinking Sherlock Holmes was his best friend. And it hurts John because he wants the world to remember Sherlock as the amazing person he was. All while battling his own grief.

My heart broke when they reached for each other.  John will never love someone as much as he loves Sherlock; even when Sherlock dies no one can compete with him.  And Sherlock’s never quite loved somebody like he loves John.

I don’t care if you see it as romantic or not, but their love is undeniable and undefinable. It’s timeless.

Over 3 and a half hours later and I’m still not over it.

This was just so beautifully shot, so well-acted. Stunning all around. This relationship—this dynamic that’s been around for decades and decades, in literature and film and all sorts of adaptations—is dealt with so amazingly on Sherlock, better than I’ve probably ever seen.

Here we have Sherlock, a man who claims not to connect to anything but his work on a personal level, and John who hadn’t been able to really connect with anything until he met Sherlock. And here they are reaching out for each other in the end. These two do complete each other, let’s face it. However you look at it, that fact remains.

WHY CAN’T I HOLD ALL OF THESE FEELS

You can actually see a tear fall.

You can actually see a tear fall.

This is the look of a man who is realizing for the first time how much he actually loves someone. It is a beautifully painful moment because he only has so little time to cherish that love.

The way John says, “You could.” Always with the utmost confidence and faith in Sherlock. And that one last smile that John is able to bring out of Sherlock before they fall.
