Holmesian Thoughts

Just watched the Elementary trailer, and I have to say I’m kind of excited for it. Obviously the modern NYC/Joan Watson take on it will be different, but that’s the point of an adaptation. Things change. It may work, it may not.

I really like the idea of Watson being someone who’s paid to be there, approaching Holmes as a client/object and then seeing the change to a friend take place (I think the change is at least suggested by the trailer/behind the scenes business.)

I think my one issue is the potential for them writing in romance between Watson and Holmes. With a heterosexual pairing it’s way more likely to happen - though honestly, I don’t ship Watson and Holmes when it’s the traditional two men either. I’ve adored the books, movies, BBC Sherlock, etc, since I was in middle school, but I’ve never seen it as a homosexual relationship. Holmes just always seemed far too asexual for any romance with Watson - not to say that two men can’t have a deep, caring, committed relationship without it being sexual. I think Holmes and Watson absolutely have that, in every incarnation. I just don’t think they have sex.

So I will reserve judgement until I see Elementary, and just hope there ain’t no kissing going on. Cause kissing is gross.

I just want to point out that Jeanette (John’s forgettable girlfriend) from Sherlock is the same actress as Lady Talisa in Game of Thrones.

Brilliant, aloof and almost entirely lacking in social graces. Sherlock is a unique young man with a mind like a ‘racing engine’. Without problems to solve, it will tear itself to pieces. And the more bizarre and baffling the problems the better. He has set himself up as the world’s only consulting detective, whom the police grudgingly accept as their superior.

Andrew Scott is Irish!

And he dropped out of Trinity drama. I knew there was something different about his Rs but I never made the connection between that and an Irish accent.

Ze mind, eet ees blown.
